Latin Lawyer has announced the winners of its Deal of The Year Awards at its charity dinners in São Paulo on March 17, 2016.

The winner in the Restructuring & Bankruptcy category was OAS Restructuring, and Tauil & Chequer in association with Mayer Brown was awarded for its relevant work for HSBC BANK USA, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION and HSBC BANK BRASIL S.A. – BANCO MÚLTIPLO, the largest bank creditor. 10 entities of the OAS Group -  the Brazilian conglomerate - filed for judicial reorganization (the Brazilian bankruptcy proceeding equivalent to the US Chapter 11 proceeding), in order to restructure a BRL 9 billion indebtedness.

Besides the representation of HSBC and HBUS in the judicial reorganization, Tauil & Chequer in association with Mayer Brown also filed a lawsuit, representing HBUS, aiming at the annulment of the merger of OAS Investimentos S.A. by OAS S.A. This matter is linked to ‘Operation Car Wash’ – one of the biggest corruption scandals in Brazil's history – since OAS S.A. and other entities of the conglomerate were accused of corruption by paying bribes to politicians and Petrobrás officials in exchange for contracts.

Partners Leonardo Morato and Luciana Celidonio and the associate Renata Lemos were the key persons of the team representing HSBC. Congratulations to everyone involved in this victory!
